In order to discover Godgiven needs within the family members, the counselor will administer what is called the “Arno Profile System”. This will generate an ‘Inborne Temperament Profile’. The Counselor will then integrate your different temperament needs, with biblical understanding.
Taking steps to fulfill & understand our Temperament Needs , then seeking a Balance in all three areas of our Temperament, (Inclusion,Control,&Affection), through FAITH in HIS Word & Spirit will bring the greatest Glory to our Creator, the Lord God Almighty!
We learn & choose behavior which determines our character; this, according to the values, which have come from our environment/associations. Generally, these are expressed according to, and are consistent with our Temperament Needs.
We develop and self select our own personality traits in the way we want to be seen by others. If we act out our temperament needs functionally, we have little stress; and conversely, if we are either unable, or choose not to meet our temperament needs, we will be in great stress.
The Lord does not want us to carry our yesterdays like an anchor. He, God wants us to cast them off and put them at the foot of His throne.
Our Creator God speaks to us through HIS Word & Spirit; “A Still Small Voice”.
(See Psalm 46;10, First Kings 19;12, & Isaiah 30;21)
“To be joined unto the Lord is to be One with Him in Spirit.” (First Corinthians 6;17)
A Therapist’s Focus is on the ‘PAST’, a Coach focuses on the ‘FUTURE’. We, will focus primarily on the client’s future, bringing HOPE; helping him or her to face the truth of the situation.
See Isaiah 43;11, “I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.”
Verse 18-19 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
“Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead…,” (Philippians 3;13).
“Cast all your anxiety on him because HE cares for you.” (First Peter 5;7)
Creation Therapy:
Physical Needs, are food, water, shelter, and rest.
One’s emotional TEMPERAMENT NEEDS: Social ’INCLUSION’, Will & ’CONTROL’, Love & ’AFFECTION’.
One’s Spiritual Needs: a Relationship with, Submition to, & the Worship of GOD.
Three ways to accommodate one’s ‘Temperament Needs’, which may resolve interpersonal conflicts are:
(not necessarily in this order)
- a change in the thinking Process; (Positive vs. Negative)
- the acknowledgement & acceptance of one’s unique Temperament; (Forgiveness brings PEACE to one’s Soul, through Faith in God’s Word &Spirit).
- a Change of Environment; (Circumstances &,or Associations).
“As you do not know the path of the wind, or know how life, (or the Spirit) enters the body being formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.” (Ecclesiastes 11;5)
Using the Temperament, (when properly understood), as a Basis for counseling an Individual, we can help a person to know & understand the Will of God.
Our Inborne Temperament being of HIS Will and Creation, HE wants us to use our unique temperament, for His purpose and His Glory.
***It is important to understand, that:
An A. P. S. Temperament Profile provides an indication of ”Temperament Traits”, & that it is not, a declaration of, or an analysis of who you are as a person.
Environment and learned behavior will magnify or lessen the intensity of a person’s Inborne Temperament.
CAUTION: Our inborne Differences are not to be used as an excuse for destructive behavior. There are unique temperament strengths and weaknesses within a person’s Soul, (the heart & mind). And we are to strive towards Harmony and Unity with God, and with our significant others. All individuals must bend & blend, seeking a balance within relationships.
Some Cases may not be the direct result of unmet Temperament Needs.
(There may be Chemical or Hormonal Imbalances.)
The Counselor is to help a person (or a Couple), to analyze what they are thinking, and to provide an understanding of irrational thinking, such as overemphasizing a threat, or an offense.
The Christian Counselor has the rights, & the Calling to teach, instruct, encourage, advise, listen, love, and believe in the Individual, with Compassion, and Concern. All based upon Faith in the Word of GOD…, while following His, God’s biblical Princeaples for Life.
in the Three Areas of our emotional Temperament;
- First Focus on the Good, and not the Bad. (Inclusion/Social Intelect)
- Then surrender our Will, and meet the Needs of Others. (Control)
- Love Unconditionally regardless of our own Needs/Preferences. (Effection)
The Complete Definition of Temperament is;how People interact with their Environment, and the World around them. It pinpoints our perception of ourselves, and those who love us. Temperament is also the determining Factor of how well we handle the Stresses and Pressures of Life. The Theory of Temperament is that; our Temperament has been placed within us by GOD,
while in our Mother’s Womb, (Ecclesiastes 11;5&Psalm 139;13), and this Temperament will remain with us throughout our lives.
Created in GOD’s “Image/Likeness”,(Genesis 1;26&27), we are also a three part ‘Spiritual Being’, with a precise Order and Balance of Body, Soul (the Heart&Mind), and Spirit, (First Thessalonians 5;23).
The Spirit encompasses one’s Temperament,& the Heart & Mind is our Temperament’s emotional Agent. This provides our Creator God’s Unique Order, in each of us. Temperament is a Determining Factor in:
- finding a Career,
- finding Hobbies/Satisfaction,
- making Decisions & taking on Responsabilities,
- how Dependant or Independent we are, &
- one’s Spiritual growth & development.
Yet, the statement that “Once the Holy Spirit is in our life, Temperament Weaknesses no longer hinder us in being of service to God”, is false.
As a result of years of Research and Observation, it has been concluded that Temperament Weaknesses are a part of mankind’s flesh, regardless of Spiritual Closeness to GOD.

In conclusion of this ‘Life in Focus’ Faith Based Counsel Presentation, be aware that:
Counselors do not dictate to clients what to do, but instead, allow them freedom to make choices, (whether right or wrong); and the Counselor is not responsible for the client’s choices.
Lord God Almighty, “Instruct us and teach us in ‘the Way’ that we should go. Counsel us & watch over us”.
(Connect Psalm 32;8, Luke 2;26&11, John 5;22&23,12;44&45,14;6,7,9&14, with Revelation 1;8,14-18,16;7,21;6&7,& 22;12&13)
My Statement of Belief:
I have been ‘CALLED’ to administer Encouragement, and offer HOPE, Peace, & Contentment to any Soul, (heart & mind), that is SINCERELY ready & willing to “EARNESTLY SEEK”, ‘the Way & the Truth’. (See John 14;6, & Hebrews 11;6)
I believe God’s Word, the Bible, to be the only authoritative, error free guide for faith and practice. It is the highest authority for both doctrine (Instruction), and morals. It alone should be the guide for our ethics, by way of its commands, precepts, general principles, examples and world view.
While it may not deal with every specific moral or ethical question, it still speaks directly to many of the issues we do face. Biblical principles and precepts give guidance to all issues which may not specifically be mentioned on its pages. (NCCA; Mildred R. Burckley, Th.D., Ph.D. Author ‘E &L I’,pg14)
Counseling situations are not the place to display my talents, but are an opportunity to show God’s divine wisdom. (DTJ; PMC, page 147)
